Q- How often should I have my air ducts cleaned?

A- Air ducts should be cleaned every 5-7 years depending on the living conditions. Pets and kids increase the frequency of cleaning.

Q- We just built a house, do we need to have the ducts cleaned?

A- One of the first things put in a house are the air ducts. The ducts are generally left uncovered throughout the building process. The ducts can collect saw dust, scraps of lumber, and lots of dust from drywall sanding. The ducts can become refuge to mice, snakes, and birds who have been known to inhabit ducts during the construction phase.

Q- The previous owner of our house was a smoker. Can anything be done to eliminate the lingering odor?

A- The ducts should be cleaned to remove any foreign material that harbors the odor. Nicotine is a very sticky tar like substance that coats the ducts. Only scrubbing the ducts can remove the nicotine buildup. Unfortunately that is not practical. But there is a remedy. An application of Sporicidin followed by a treatment of Soot Set can do wonders. Soot Set is specifically designed for metal ducts and encapsulates the nicotine creating a barrier blocking any remaining odor.
